I wasn’t sure what to expect from this 2 week Ch

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this 2 week China author trip. So no cash or card, only QR codes on specific apps? And once there, comms was gonna be sketchy? Most ironically, I don’t speak the lingo, but everyone will expect me to. Ha, well here goes…

What a surprise then that everything went like magic. The people esp. schools, were the most welcoming you could ever meet. I was plied with gifts from the off, and even though my itinerary (plus jet lag) was bonkers, the vibe was cool.

In between sessions, I had free rein of the art dept (thanks @mrstewartart), browsed books, chatted with the kids, and squeezed in a geeky Maglev ride. Oh yeah, and I scoffed loads of real deal Chinese grub - bonus!

Outside school time, I was also invited to delicious dumpling suppers, discovered Beijing with @guruwalk and met Insta pal @holly.ann.golightly for the 1st time IRL.

Thank you to everyone who made my trip such an adventure💛

As a trained @EmpathyLabUK author, this is a quick reminder that from 2-12 June, 1000s of people will be taking part in the ‘Empathy Day Festival’ (in schools, libraries and loads of other places across the UK). Why? Cos Empathy DAY has grown so massive, it’s now spread over a WEEK!

Stories which celebrate difference are one of the best ways to teach Empathy skills, so 100s of us authors and illustrators are encouraging kids to read to be kind💗

What a grand finale to my 2 week China trip!

I missed The Bund on my last trip to Shanghai and was mega lucky to catch it this time round. All thanks to the utterly fabulous @holly.ann.golightly who I’ve chatted with on Instagram for 5 years and never met in person till now!

Being an English teacher in China and practically a local, who better to take me to a dinner spot with THE BEST views?! Thanks Holly- till next time! 😘
